ESTABLISHING THE COACHING RELATIONSHIP

The coaching relationship is negotiated between you and your coach in terms of its boundaries, and each party's responsibilities and commitment to the process. Above all, the relationship is based on respect, confidentiality and confidence so that the process of growth is achieved.

DISCUSS AND IDENTIFY GOALS

The initial meeting between you and your coach is about establishing a sense of trust, discussing your expectations of the process and assessing your needs. Your coach will encourage you to open up about yourself and discuss the issues that matter to you openly and frankly.

FORMULATE A PERSONAL PLAN

Your coach will set up a program tailor made to suit your needs.  This may include the need to learn new skills, change a particular behaviour, or to develop an increased awareness about your self, values and self limiting beliefs and how they affect your relationships with others at work or in your private life.

PUTTING THE PLAN INTO EFFECT

A variety of techniques are used at this stage to monitor the process of learning and growth.  For example, your coach will use role plays, encourage new attitudes, test new behaviours and reduce any resistance to the process.  It is also important for you to actively participate and provide regular feedback about the processes you are engaged in and about your own learning.

MONITORING RESULTS

Change is measured through the use of surveys, profiling, typology, journaling, and regular homework and reflection outside of the coaching sessions.
